Very distant origins...

Cardamom is an exotic spice native to India, Malaysia and Sri Lanka, which has played a little-known but essential role in the history of perfumery. For centuries, its bewitching fragrance and aromatic qualities have made it a prized ingredient in perfume creation.

The use of cardamom in perfumery dates back to ancient times. The ancient Egyptians were known for their love of perfume and cardamom was used to perfume religious rituals, cosmetics and even bedrooms. The Greeks and Romans also adopted this spice in their perfumes and skincare products.

In the Middle Ages, cardamom was considered a luxury spice in Europe and was increasingly used in perfumery. Its fragrance was highly prized in the manufacture of ointments and perfumes. Artisan perfumers of the time experimented with different combinations of cardamom and other ingredients to create exotic and seductive scents.

The Renaissance saw the rise of European perfumery, and cardamom continued to play an important role. Cardamom-based perfumes were particularly popular at the court of sovereigns and nobles. Its fragrance was associated with wealth, luxury and elegance.

The complex fragrance of cardamom

Cardamom is often used in men's fragrances to add a touch of elegance and sophistication. It gives a spicy, slightly sweet note that adds warmth and sensuality to the fragrance. Cardamom can also add a subtle sensation of freshness, making it a versatile ingredient in both feminine and masculine compositions.

It is one of the most complex spices in perfumery. The exact scent of cardamom is difficult to describe, as it is unique and complex. It is often described as spicy, sweet, lemony and even slightly mentholated. Some people even find a floral note in certain varieties!

An aphrodisiac fragrance?

There is no conclusive scientific evidence that the scent of cardamom is an aphrodisiac. However, in various cultures around the world, cardamom is often associated with stimulating and health-promoting properties, including positive effects on the libido. Some people find the scent of cardamom pleasant and stimulating, and its oriental fragrance contributes to a sensual atmosphere...
